If I'm reading the chart right, it indicates that the middle income tax estimator group is currently paying a larger percentage of their income in taxes than the upper income group. To me this indicates that it would make sense to bump up the federal income taxes on this higher-income group.
However, I'd want to see a more detailed breakdown and would want to know just how the figures were calculated. For example, it makes a difference if the percent of income is obtained by summing the total income Read more [...]
Edward, each of us has the responsibility to develop your communication skills skills and talents where we can serve actual needs of our fellow man.
You describe people who are unqualified to teach, so your solution is to use union extortion to force taxpayers to give them welfare.
Why not encourage these people to look around.....to use their imagination to develop skills which can be used to honestly serve the needs of their neighbors.
Why convert these people into professional leeches? Encourage Read more [...]
Outspoken and courageous are not the same thing. Palin is a niche candidate who appeals to people with narrow views who feel they have been slighted. Palin is perpetually slighted, perpetually the victim. The politics of victimhood are not brave. Palin has not shown that she can propose solid solutions to what ails us.
Look at what she had to say about teh Middle East where she kept whining that obama needed to say who our friends are and who our enemies are! As if that is even possible! Our friends Read more [...]
The article is misleading and biased and does not address all the considerations. How about all the money down the drain that was paid in rent? How about the tax break on interest payments on a mortgage? If renting is so much better then owning your own business; then the owner of the property (those renting) are foolish because they are losing money. There are many other positive consideration to owning rather then renting. With the exception of the last few years owning property has been a much Read more [...]
This is one of the reasons that so many college graduates are entering the workforce without some of the basic skills needed how to choose a career succeed, such as the ability to write a professional letter or email. If undecided, the idea of college is not always to choose a career before you graduate. College students should lean toward a major of interest that will provide them with the ability to succeed in areas where their general interest leans. Creating majors for students doesn't do the Read more [...]
By this account, I have 'suffered' from this all my life. I say, abuse through childhood depression, marriage, coupled the unthinkable life happenings have as much to do with pessimism and hopelessness as anything else. The poisoning of our environment and our bodies, and the extraordinary stress this artificially imposed way of life we live lead to the feeling that it is all rigged con games designed to sap energy at a profit. The cure for depression is not found in a pill, in a job or in material Read more [...]
The IRS should be tasked with preparing a draft identifying currently allowed deductions and the amount of tax deductions 2012 deductions currently allowed for each item.. A team composed of Senators from each party and currently up for election in 2012 should be tasked with recommending a reduction in the deduction limit.
Elimination of the deduction for mortgage interest, dwelling tax, or sales tax would truly destroy the sick housing market. However some legislators have those as targets.

Mr Lyles, apologies for addressing this to you, but the WSJ offers no way to respond to Mr Bhide.
I do not consider myself a Scrooge, but I would like to see everyone receiving a W-2, 1099 tax calculator, or whatever to pay some federal income tax, even if it be the equivalent of the widow's mite. All who can should have some skin in the game.
Of course, society should provide a safety net for those who lack the means to provide it themselves. Still, if they earn, I submit they should pay -- even Read more [...]
Normal people know that when they emigrate to a foreign country they have to make concessions to accommodate the existing culture and laws of the new country, if they want to be accepted. It seems that this particular culture/religion/political culture group/whatever the heck it is you want to call it has been the most reluctant to change or compromise when assimilating into an existing and established culture. Good for France! I hope other countries follow suit, rather than support the archaic rituals Read more [...]
Really good points! Regardless of the e-reader, most people use this format for shelf space/travel convenience. Most people will continue for the foreseeable future to buy hardbacks for texts, coffee table monsters, etc. where permanence may be an important factor. As an avid reader of many genres, I simply am not going to revisit most of my e-book purchases so permanent and transferrable e-book formats are not that important. An e-book is not going to have intrinsic and extrinsic motivation value Read more [...]
