They're PLENTY of capital in the world economy these days ... especially because of the Chinese. Entrepreneurs don't have to suck up to rich Americans as much as they used to. There's billions of capital available from mutual funds and 401ks that the MIDDLE CLASS put money into as well. Bottom line, taxing America's millionaires and billionaires more won't hurt top entrepreneurs access to capital much at all ... especially if they have a rock solid business plan and good managers with integrity making Read more [...]
Are we to think thlosing a loved onet every act that would save a loved one is morally licit? Is this your argument to your daughter? While the case for or against the bomb should not be over simplified, your argument is weak. Also, I find it interesting that your ends justifies the means argument is considered humanizing. If anything, this is what non-human animals do: anything to survive. The ability to give ones life for a loved one is something that takes a human to a higher level than a non-human Read more [...]
Mr. Laffer's shocking lack of understanding of sales incentives is apparent from the very first paragraph. There are negative incentives, e.g. murder is illegal not to ENcourage murder but to DIScourage it, and there are positive incentives, e.g. R&D costs can be taken as a credit instead of capitalized in order to ENcourage investment in research and development. Because Mr. Laffer does not understand these basic principles of incentivization, everything he writes must be viewed with a high degree Read more [...]
Management gone wild. Public corporations need to get back leadership styles in managementto the business of promoting shareholder interest rather than just the interests of management. I would like to start a discussion and get some impute from the community. Some of my suggestions: 1. More corporate democracy and empowered shareholders. If this was the case we wouldnt need caps on CEO salaries and bonuses. Corporate law was developed around 400 years, shortly after the printing press Read more [...]
Mr. Trumka, FDR had it right when he wrote that public employees cannot be represented in the traditional construct of collective bargaining because the employer is the public as a whole. Negotiating against the employer is negotiating against the interest of the public. Wisconsin's elected leaders, and those in other states, erred when they inappropriately extended this privilege to public employees in the past. The ramifications of those unwise decisions are now visible for all to see and those Read more [...]
When will people finally get it. Any deferred benefit that is administered by the Federal government is doomed to fail. Why? Because they cannot responsibly invest the money. In fact they spend as soon as they collect it they spend it. The only solution is individual private accounts that are invested by the participant, and separately accounted for and tracked by the individual. This takes the Federal government out of the deferred benefit business, eliminates the possibility of any unfunded liability Read more [...]
The people you mention, Gates, Allen, Dell, who dropped out of college are all very smart. Far more intelligent than the majority of the population. It's a bit optimistic to assume that the average person could, at the end of high school or with one or two years of a university education, go on to similar accomplishments. Will there be exceptions to the rule? Always. But some form of education post-high school is almost always necessary. Perhaps there is an over-reliance on college being the only Read more [...]
Foreign language instruction in the United States is in crisis. Many school districts have reduced the languages offered, and only Spanish and Chinese remain. We need to ask ourselves why we learn a foreign language translation language. Is it only for commercial advantage, or to speak to our immigrant population? Or are there other reasons? French is deeply embedded in our language and culture, and has been for nearly a thousand years. Although we may not realize it, we can scarcely speak a sentence Read more [...]
The capture characteristics of a good leader this top cartel leader will surely impact this particular cartel, but it will not shut down the cartel or other cartels. When leaders get taken out or die, someone else will step up and assume their role. Whoever takes on their role may not be as organized or as good of a leader, but the violence and crime of the cartels will not stop in any way. If anything, there will just be more violence internally in the cartel because of people fighting over who Read more [...]
